What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of talking therapy that uses a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis, and focuses on solutions for the future rather than revisiting problems from the past. When we are in a state of hypnosis we are extremely relaxed, yet in a state of focused attention. Hypnosis or trance is a very natural state that we go into all the time without even realising. For example we do it when we are watching TV, out for a run or driving. It is guided relaxation where the mind can focus on suggestions that may be useful to create a positive future.

How does it work?

During a hypnotic trance your mind is more responsive to suggestion and these suggestions are designed to help you change unhelpful negative thought patterns. Hypnosis itself reduces anxiety through deep relaxation and visualisation allowing the client to focus on positive aspects of their life that encourages a change in their perspective. It is a guided process with repetition and the trance-like state you enter may appear similar to sleep in many ways, but you are fully aware of what's going on.

Reviews

“The friend I lived with last year came to stay. She said “I’ve noticed a change in you. You look for the positives and you’re seeing the bigger picture. You could be going through the worst, but you find some light in it. It’s really nice to see”. She was with me at my lowest so for her to say that means a lot. I wanted to message and say thank you because you’ve helped me change my mindset drastically”.

“Holly is amazing and I can highly recommend her. I had always been sceptical about hypnotherapy but the sessions I have had have been great and actually worked to meet my individual needs. For those of you that are sceptical like I was, give Holly a call/message and get booked in”.

“The hypnotherapy sessions were very helpful, I have taken away key words and repeat them as a mantra. My experience with Holly was excellent, I felt very relaxed and comfortable.”

“Hypnotherapy relieved my anxiety and made me feel much calmer for my upcoming operation”

“You helped me better understand the logic of projection i.e. the idea that if you think negatively about an event it will be a negative experience when it happens. You helped me rationalise the logic that in these circumstances you have already played out the event with a negative outcome in your mind therefore the event will always feel as if it has been a negative experience even if the lived experience is a very positive one and this becomes a self-perpetuating cycle”.

“Holly, you are an absolute star! Your manner and disarming approach are just perfect for this type of work. You are an excellent communicator and I am certain you are destined for a long career in the field. I benefited from these sessions in more than one way; firstly, the opportunity to discuss openly, and in confidence, the things I experience in relation to my mental health was, not only cathartic, but also a pleasant and consciously healthy process. Secondly, being able to take away from these sessions practical, realistic and workable advice and strategies that I could look to implement throughout my week was very effective. Having a focus for the week ahead was particularly useful for me”.
